An assembled pair of brass Heemskerk candlesticks.  Dutch, 1650-1680.  One has a little more bell metal, creating a slight reddish tinge when compared to the other.

“Heemskerk” is a town in the Netherlands, dating back at least to 1063.  Two castles, Castle Oud Haerlem and Castle Heemskerk, were built in the twelfth and thirteenth century to protect the county from outsiders, but in the fifteenth century the residents fought each other during the Hook and Cod wars, destroying both castles.
