Chippendale Cherry Chest of Drawers, Litchfield, CT

Home/Furniture/Chippendale Cherry Chest of Drawers, Litchfield, CT

Chippendale cherry straight front bureau featuring a molded top, inset quarter columns, four graduated drawers, and all supported on carved ball and claw feet with unusual cross brace construction. Litchfield, Connecticut, 1780-1795.

Tell me more: Original construction and retaining the original brass bail hardware and inset brass escutcheons.  The top shows several wooden pins or plugs added to secure the top to the case from above.  The surface has been cleaned some time ago, likely the mid 20th century.   Rear brackets have been added to the underside of the chest to strengthen the rear feet.
